Côte d’Ivoire
The “Movement for Education, Health, and Development” (NGO MESAD) was founded in 2001 in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire and has been working ever since in favor of children and young people in difficult situations in the country.
The association’s areas of focus include: community development, education, professional integration, rights, health, and particularly the fight against HIV/AIDS and female genital mutilation.
MESAD operates throughout the entire Ivorian territory through 5 provincial branches and 13 local branches, providing targeted assistance to children in disadvantaged neighborhoods and rural areas, as well as those excluded or victims of trafficking and the worst forms of labor.
Thanks to its efforts, more than 10,000 children have been educated or literate through 27 schools built mainly in the eastern and northern parts of the country.
Each of the projects led by MESAD is used to train local workers in the construction of buildings made from geo-cement bricks, a material widely used in Africa, primarily composed of laterite, a local soil found throughout the country, and a “free” raw material. Additionally to giving access to schools, this training help local communities to develop.
